Major Sholto, in Sherlock’s words, John’s ‘ex’-commander (a comic conversation ensues) is the cause of jealousy for Sherlock to which Mary soothes him by saying. The cause for trouble in this episode is the mysterious murder of a member of the Royal Guard, who contacted Sherlock for he believed he was being stalked. This really compels us to believe how much Sherlock has changed, or rather grown during his separation from John. Not really known for his polite interactions with ‘people’, Sherlock does ensure he behaves like a perfect gentleman with Mary’s maid of honour. Sherlock’s chemistry with Janine is definitely a mentionable perk in the episode. Sherlock admits to John being the ‘the bravest, the kindest and the wisest human being he has ever known’ and John whispers to Mary to not let him get up and hug Sherlock to which she blatantly refuses. The wedding reception is a delightfully shot sequence with oodles of colour, humour and moments that touch your heart. It pretty much sums up the comfort level the trio share. A particular scene shows her thumbs-upping both John and Sherlock, each without the other knowing. Even Mary has accepted Sherlock as an add-on with her relationship with John. Much like the title of the episode, the dynamic of Sherlock, John and Mary is explored and represents how wilfully Sherlock has accepted Mary without considering her a threat. A good 40 minutes from the beginning focuses solely on the wedding with not much mention of the case.
The entire episode revolves around Sherlock’s best man speech, with the case at hand interwoven in his monologue.
